Putu piring is a traditional Malay snack that’s shaped like a flat plate. A popular dessert during Ramadhan season, it is made by filling a combination of rice flour and palm sugar into small metal dishes before steaming them for a couple of minutes. Once cooked, the cakes are then placed on a banana leaf and sprinkled with grated young coconut. The best putu piring can be found in a humble-looking stall is here. Priced at RM1 each, we love how the fluffy cake is generously filled with fragrant gula Melaka while the coconut provides a crunchy texture to the ensemble. It is yummy and do not forget to try!
